Fraxel® laser treatment produces thousands of microscopic columns of laser energy on the treated area of skin.
These zones, which are very small but deep, are separated by areas of intact skin that the laser leaves untouched.
This fractional treatment allows the skin that remains intact to heal the treated skin.
The body’s natural healing process creates new healthier skin to replace the older, damaged skin.
By design, each Fraxel® treatment targets between 20-25 % of the skin’s surface. Therefore, depending on the patient’s skin, an effective treatment regimen requires a minimum of four treatments spaced four weeks apart.
Treatments are non-ablative and down time is minimal, consisting mainly of swelling, redness and flaking for several days. Because of its gentleness, Fraxel® laser treatments may be done in different body areas that were impossible to treat with ablative lasers.
Areas such as the neck, chest and hands can be effectively treated with the Fraxel® laser.
Optimal improvement is usually noted three to six months after the last Fraxel® treatment, although most patients notice a gradual but progressive improvement after just the first treatment.
